Busy Day

this morning i woke up coughing and hacking, not even wanting to get out of bed to take the girls to school. so what did i decide to do, take them on a road trip instead. what am i , nuts? on our summer to-do list, which we copied from valerie, we put down that we were going to visit the tallgrass prairie outside of pawhuska, just like valerie did last week. she has so many good ideas! my little growing family has a couple of close friends whose family owned the ranch. their grandmother was a genuine cowgirl back when and has written a book about her days growing up there. my Greek has it tucked away somewhere...otherwise i'd tell you the name of the book. it was fun to drive through there and think of them as my kids' age running around all that land playing and riding horses. amazing.
well, we drove to pawhuska and went through the "gateway" to go get our chance to see the bison.
we finally drove through to the ranch house and information center. just as some sprinkles of rain came down. we signed the guest book and went in to look at all the bones, pelts, teeth, horns, and other odds and ends they have on tactile display there. just don't touch the stuffed animals for sale, the women working did not like the girls feeling the merch. we used the restroom and headed out to visit the trails.
i couldn't walk along the whole mile trail. i got tired after 100 feet. 34 weeks pregnant, with a cold, a bum leg, can't imagine why i couldn't make a mile.
on the way out of the reserve we did see a herd of bison near the horizon, far far far far far away. o well. maybe next time. we did have to stop for a herd of cows in the middle of the road we saw earlier behind the fence. how they got in the middle of the road, i don't know. getting to see the cows in the road was very entertaining. it was like when i would drive this back road to culinary school just so i could see if these pigs that lived on a farm behind the school got out so i could usher them back in the fence. i love farm animals.we drove back through the gorgeous hills of OKlahoma to our beautiful green city of Tulsa. it really was a beautiful drive, i could barely keep my eyes on the road. part of me wishes i'd stayed in bed to fight off this cold, but i am glad we went.

Gardens, Nettie Pots, and Snow

That's Foo Fa helping me weed the garden today. I didn't want to weed the garden even though it was gorgeous outside. Normally I love to sit and weed through dirt for hours, (no, really, I do.) but I am on my second day of a cold. I have a this cold two other times in a matter of 6 weeks. Two weeks being hit by the cold train, one week off, another two weeks hacking and coughing not being able to take any good drug to stop my pain, one week off. Now I am on the cold train for the 3rd freaking time. My nettie pot is my best natropathic friend. I get excited to fill it with my salt and baking soda concoction along with warm water and let gravity do it's work. Well sometimes it works. Like right now the water just goes up my nose and just sits there. Awesome. I just want to breathe.
I had to get some gardening finished today. The wonderful, sunny, 70 degree weather we had today is being replaced by rain and snow tomorrow. I got some sun today, on my cheeks and shoulders. It's nice to be rosey again. I sat outside for 2 hours with my bonus mother(marc-ee's mommy) at a patio cafe chatting and slurping my virgin margarita in a tank top and sandals, wondering how this sky was going to produce snow. Will Rogers once quipped, "If you don't like the weather in Oklahoma, wait a minute and it'll change." It is so hard to get things planted in the timeline you are suppose to in OKlahoma. Our weather is odd to say the least. The ground thawed out then, BAM!, more rain and snow. No tilling in time for me. Nature does not want me to plant my potatoes, onions, carrots, broccoli, or peas. Selfish nature. I planted them any ways today. I had to. I can't wait till a fall planting on those. I need them.
Here are Saffron and Chocolate "helping."

Rainy days...
Ughhhhh. I have just put the girls in time out for the 2nd time in a 15 minute span. Rainy days at the scooter shop means no outside, indoor activities only. So there ends up being many physical fights over crayons and coloring books and dress up items. I go and investigate and Beila is the one who seems to have the upper hand, I always have to watch her closely. She'll poke someone's eye out. I think I am coming down with another cold. Netti pot and Oscillococcinum are my friends. Together we combat the tickling of my throat. So far this year we have been very healthy. No flu, as of yet, and not too much of the snotty nose virus has infiltrated our house.
We went to our favorite pumpkin patch out west this past weekend and had a ball as always. Marc followed the girls around with his iPhone taking video as the played with the goats. We also went on a hayride, ran through a hay maze about a dozen or so times, picked out our pumpkins, had hot chocolate, ate an odd shaped funnel cake, and forced an older woman to get out of the white bench so we could take our annual photo on it. We gave it back to her eventually.
Well it's almost time to go home. We are going to M.A. Doran Gallery before we go home. Kreg Kallenberger, a family friend, has a new exhibit there. I better call Marc and let him know he's going:)
