Snow. Snow. Snow.

I hate snow.  There, I said it.  It's cold, it bites, it's wet, it can kill you.  I make my point.  But the crazy kids love it.  And that is unfortunate, because I seem to be the one that finds wet mittens and socks everywhere.  Ba-humbug.

This is Getting Old

over the weekend things kinda got back to normal. people crept from their houses, grocery stores got restocked, and snow melted from the streets-very slowly. schools still were out and were called on monday too, but not the girls' school! their dad had the privilege of taking them to school monday and tuesday, but today school was out again. it snowed overnight and all day covering our snow and ice ground with fresh powder, enabling me to see my pathways outside, and i guess it screwed up the streets even more. we never left the house. another dutch baby for breakfast with bacon, split pea soup for lunch, and steak for dinner. we all hung out in my bed most of the day. it is nice to be getting along together nicely, but i just want our non-routine back. this is getting so old.

Things I Learned About Myself

during our "blizzard" this past week i have learned a few things i didn't know about myself...
-being stuck in a house for over 48 turns me into a sloth
-i am much more patient than i believed possible
-i hate snow(i knew that already, but i REALLY hate it)
-i love my toyota land cruiser
-being stuck indoors while snow surrounds me, i cook very warming and tasty, yet very bad for you foods
-i like not changing my clothes for days on end(i knew that too, but rarely get to full fill my yearning for it:)
-my kids get along more often than not
-i love my chickens so much i am willing to wade through 15" of snow to water and feed them
-after 48 hours being stuck indoors i am willing to walk in the snow, which i hate, to get out of the house.UNBELIEVABLE, but true.
-after five days cooped indoors with my children i get a tad bit irritable, just a tad

i can't believe i didn't use this down time to clean and organize my abode, it was like the snow had mini lasers that shot sloth behavior right into my ears and i had to be lazy. yeah, mini sloth lasers.

what happened? a week ago i was basking in the nice warm sun outside on the front lawn while children played all around in their t-shirts. oh yeah, i live in OK. cool. i spent monday getting ready for this week, but nothing can prepare you for three children cooped up for 4 days. it is too cold to go out and play and too snowy to play. today we went out! today we saw other humans besides family, and it was nice. the city streets are crazy. i don't know if the streets have been plowed or not, they are packed with snow and everywhere there are cars stuck, covered in snow, stuck at the light, people with shovels, cars pushing other cars. then there are the people walking. they walk in the middle of the street because the snow is packed down there, hauling groceries or pulling them on sleds. then it happened, it snowed again:( good thing i LOVE to cook! y'all keep warm now, ya hear.

at about 2pm i measured 13.5" in my driveway. ughhh. i hate snow. but i was quite entertained by my brother and his girlfriend, anissa. we had wine, snacks galore, and board games...all day.

the impending snow fall in oklahoma drives people crazy. just as long as my electricity doesn't go out, i'll be fine. i put fresh hay in the coop as well as an extension cord so i can put a heat pad out there. i brought fire wood on the front porch, and bought disposable diapers in case i can't wash our diapers. i made tapioca pudding yesterday for the girls. i have marshmallows and hot chocolate on hand, and brownie mix ready to go. i think i will hole up and sew, cook food that is bad for me, make dinner for my family(my brother and g.f. live a block away and can walk over:), and pull out the board games. i also put a new bottle of vodka in the freezer...gotta keep my insides warm. if things get really bad i am getting in the rv and going to texas! enjoy your snow.

Snow Day

the midwest got snow last night. whoo-hoo. school was out for about 2 inches of snow. i didn't even have to scrape my car windows and they let school out. the girls played indoors mostly, played outside some, had hot chocolate and pancakes for lunch, and we went to popi's grand-madame's for dinner and a movie and a martini:)

reason #5, 348 i love my Greek. he got me my very own carhart coveralls and rainbow moon boots so i could be just like him:)

Oklahoma Spring Storms

every spring, us Oklahomans have some crazy weather to deal with. spring thunderstorms can be beautiful, but here in the Heartland they often turn deadly. the warm air coming in from the gulf hits the cold air and makes the sky go crazy. it turns ominous shades of greens, blues, and grays and forms wall clouds that may or may not form a tornado. being outside at these times has the oddest feeling of electricity and calm all at the same time. if you are from here, you know what i mean. all over the television and radio there are warnings and doppler radar pictures for us to watch, but most Oklahomans go outside and watch the sky. sirens could be going off, hail coming down the size of golf balls and most of my neighborhood would be out on their porch looking out. not me. i have a healthy fear of the beast we call "tornado". i call it healthy, it's probably not. they scare me, make me shake in my boots. if the sky even gets that shade of cloudy absinthe, i find the nearest basement to camp out in with my favorite possessions. a close friend of mine was taken by a F-5 (the strongest on the fujita scale) tornado May 3,1999. i remember that night, not sure what was happening in and around my state's capital. i was working in the kitchen at a local restaurant, we were all standing out back listening to the radio and watching the sky. we heard that it hit the city of Moore, we were all wondering if we knew anyone in Moore. i didn't think i did, so i felt fine. the next day i found out i did indeed know someone in Moore, Oklahoma. there was optimism in the beginning, we just didn't know where he was, that area was a mess, how could he call to say he was okay...over 40 people died tragically that day including Rusty. i think about him all the time, especially every spring.
